taikibansei, vitriol might discourage a teenager from directly posting here. Also, members here are well qualified to answer these questions.

No vitriol written or implied. As became clear in the thread (and noted by multiple posters), the OP in question was not seriously inquiring. (He states above that he had worked in Japan as either an eikaiwa instructor or an ALT, which begs the question of why he needed "us" to tell him how to get an ALT position...). The OP also did not work at an American college/university and was not advising a student. (Hints include the OP not knowing what "specializations" or "minors" mean in a US university context, nor was he aware of faculty-student advising norms.)

FYI, there is a notorious troll on Dave's who periodically posts these kinds of queries--usually on behalf of "a friend." Another defining characteristic of this individual is how he just never "gets" the advice given; despite this advice being repeated clearly and politely multiple times by multiple posters, he always comes back with spurious questions and/or arguments which suggest he doesn't quite understand. Invariably, this is a mere pose. (You can find a classic example just on this thread. See, several people advised the exact same thing you did in your post--including me on the first page--only the OP doesn't quite follow...despite having ostensibly worked in Japan before.)

Invariably, this troll starts claiming stuff that doesn't add up--the faculty role at a US university being again a classic example--and his thread gets derailed. For this reason, he has been repeatedly kicked off these boards by the moderators.
