Hi all

Are there any worthwhile courses out there to qualify me specifically for online English teaching?

I have a CELTA and I'm currently studying an English degree. The latter won't be completed for a few years, hence why I'm looking for any other qualifications to add to my CV.

I assume that the best way is to simply get a job teaching online, but I have other work commitments at the moment, hence why I'm looking at study in the meantime.

Here's one example, but I've no idea of it's worth...

Thanks

Employers aren't likely to require or even acknowledge a specialized cert in teaching English online. Also be aware that online teaching isn't one size fits all.

I have no knowledge of the quality of the Bridge cert. Per the course outline, it entails:
    Introduction to Teaching English Online
    Exposure, Motivation, and Opportunity
Language Acquisition, the Learner, and the Teacher
    Building and Balancing Lessons
    Building Accuracy and Fluency
Teaching Speaking, Listening, Reading & Writing Online
    Assessment and More
Alternately, check out MOOCs for professional development & more; both lynda.com and Coursera have courses on teaching online in general, which could complement your CELTA.

Since you recently started university studies toward a BA, you might want to refrain from taking on any online teaching course until you're ready to apply for online work.

Thanks for your advice.

£110 for the BridgeTEFL course seems a expensive if employers don't particularly care. I'll check out the other platforms/courses that you've mentioned instead.

I agree that additional courses alongside a degree could be a bad idea. I have a couple of months to play with, though, and I like to keep busy Smile
