|
|
Hi,
Can anyone tell me what is a standard dress code for teachers in Qatar? I really like to know if we need a tie when we're teaching or not. In the states, I never wore a tie, but some of my colleagues did. Let me know what you should wear and really, what you shouldn't wear as a male teacher.
Gracias. |

Depends on employer, I would guess. Something to ask during the interview and/or HR if you already have a position.

Definitely something to ask your employer. Attitudes vary but generally the Gulf is quite conservative. The BC insists on ties for men but I don't think Qatar Uni does. In any case, you should expect to wear trousers and a smart-ish shirt. |

CNAQ and CCQ long sleeved dress shirts and ties and "professional" footwear (no sport shoes or sandals)
I believe K-12 international schools are similar |

People in Qatar expect you to dress professionally and formally. In Qatar's climate, matching trousers, a shirt and a tie is ideal - a suit without the suit jacket. Even in winter, Qatar is very warm - about 25 degrees Celsius - so bring formal attire but save space (and weight) in your luggage by leaving suit jackets at home. |

You will definitely need a jacket or two, bizarrely as it seems, for indoors. While it can be beautifully balmy even in winter, as Psychedelicacy says, it can be perishingly cold indoors due to the ferocious air conditioning. I never got used to going outdoors to warm up... |
