Seems you were expected to be there and you knew it. No one here can let you off for that matter. Movie day, well, fine. |

If you're rostered to teach a class, and you don't show up, I think that your manager has a pretty good reason to be unhappy with you. |

I was in the same situation, well kind of. I was told a couple of weeks ago that I would have to come in on the 29th, which was a bit of a surprise. I also would have finished exams by then. I argued with them a bit but then just accepted it. Anyway a week later they decided it was unnecessary, so great! I would have gone in though if They hadn’t changed their minds, though I agree it would have been useless. More hassle not going in.... |

You don't get to make up your own rules, OP. |

Hey guys. While I appreciate hearing your ideas, and learning that I am once again wrong (as it always seems to be), I find it a little bit peculiar that this board seems to be full of nothing but conformists. |

Maybe, I just find it less hassle to fulfill my basic contractual obligations and get on with my life..personally! Not really a country that welcomes anything else really, but then again, where is? |

Did you tell them beforehand you would not be going in on a work day? Saturday was a work day in China. At my work we decided to work on Christmas in order to have that Saturday off. Just not showing up without warning is kind of odd. Did you at least give them a heads up or did you just let students arrive for class and not be there? |

I prefer the term adults myself. Conforming to the rules, regulations and reasonable requests of ones employer sees perfectly okay to me. You don't get to decide whether a rescheduled class is important to your students or not, that's your bosses job. It sounds like you rescheduled your exams too, to allow yourself to take an extra week off work, albeit your working week is only two days long. How would you feel if your employer randomly rescheduled your two days of classes in order to suit themselves? I doubt you'd be any happier than your employers are when you do it. |

Not 'conforming' to your contractual agreement is a quick way to get fired. I'll dig my heels in and fight the powers that be if something is ridiculous and doesn't make sense, but you just decided to not show up to work on a workday. |

...okay. thanks for your help guys. I've learned a hard lesson. If you don't mind, let's move on and try to forget about it. I made a mistake, I feel like I'm stupid and don't know how to make appropriate decisions, and feel very guilty about it. |

Don't get down on yourself, every day is a learning experience! Learn from mistakes and use the experience to change your behaviour (if needed). You're doing the right thing by questioning yourself and seeking opinions from others. It's the people that always believe that they're right who tend to keep making the same mistakes. |
