Hello there,
If one arrives in China with a Z visa in hand, is it necessary to enter on a round trip/return ticket or will a one-way be acceptable. I remember there being a requirement for an onward ticket for some countries.
Thanks,
MM

China will not stop you, but the plane company might.

Obviously not! I have come in several times on a Z visa and not been hassled. The visa is for one year. You eventually become a resident, so you don't leave for a long time. Also the airline company will not stop you. If so, then tell them it's a long term visa for at least one year. The onward ticket requirement is for visas on arrival (one month or three months depending on the city you arrive in).

You might need to explain at airport check-in/boarding that the z visa will be converted to a long term work permit - the z visa itself is only for 30 days , and new airline staff often get confused and ask for return ticket evidence when it's not necessary.

The only time you would buy a round trip ticket is if you were coming in on a tourist visa because either you are a tourist who is staying a short time, or you are giving the appearance of being a tourist even though you actually plan to transfer to a work visa.

If you are coming in on a work visa (which is what a Z visa is), unless you have amazing foresight and know exactly when you can take your vacations or that you will be flying anywhere for the next year, then there is no reason to have a return ticket, and no one will expect you to have one.
