1. I hate to take advantage of another's misfortune, but, will the Brexit disaster create opportunities for US expat ESL teachers that haven't existed recently?

2. My qualifications are pretty minimal: native English speaker from the US, BA in English from a US university in San Francisco, TEFL cert of negligible value from inside of a matchbook Oxford Seminars.

I will turn 60 in the summer of 2020.

Would it make sense to get a Celta, or am I too old for this to be a credible option for ESL work sufficient to pay the bills in Madrid or Valencia?

Thanks.

It's not about age in Europe (different from Asia), but about legality and job market/pay.

Rather than opening up opportunities for US citizens, the EU zone is actually planning to tighten barriers - in 2021 US passport holders will in fact need a visa to even visit the EU, rather than enjoying the long-standing 90 days visa free.

Further, everyone (who can legally work there) wants to teach in Spain, France, and the other desirable EU countries. That keeps wages low; employers simply don't need to pay more than a subsistence wage to attract teachers with basic quals. CELTA is the usual basic bottom -level standard so having one wouldn't make you stand out, especially given your passport.

I think your chances are very slim to find anything paying a reasonable living wage for an adult, but it's nothing to do with your age.
