I'm working for them right now in fact. I just finished up a semester at a high school in Luxian (southern Sichuan) which Wancheng organized for me. I could write volumes about my experiences with them but here is the Cliff's Notes version:
Positives:
They pay on time and accurately.
The pay is better than 80-90% of the jobs out there.
The staff is personable.
They are usually expedient in paying for transportation costs, if applicable.
The accomodations (at least the ones I've seen) are top notch.
I think in most cases they try to do the right thing.
Negatives:
The staff appears quite disorganized at times.
The staff is usually not prompt in answering inquiries concerning a variety of things.
It is very difficult to get any specifics about an upcoming job ahead of time.
They have been dishonest on occasion about the nature and/or location of some jobs.
Having said all that, I've signed on with them for a summer camp, so it must not be that bad. I should also say that individual members of the staff have been very helpful in helping my foreign wife and I during her pregnancy. They seem to give a sh**. My experience is that if you do a good job for Wancheng, they will take care of you and try to do right by you.
I'm more than willing to field any other specific questions you might have. |

Well, I was in an extremely small town, so while it was quite beautiful in parts, it didn't have many of the basic amenities that I require. I was about 45 mins. outside of the next biggest town, Luzhou, which had some of the groceries I like to buy and nightspots that I like to go to on occasion. It was a royal pain having to make that trip when required, and buses didn't run after 6pm, so if I wanted to go out socializing at night, I had to take a taxi home which would cost me about 90 rmb (a lot for here in China).
That said, I'm sure there are many nice areas of Sichuan, Chengdu in particular. |
