[Boy Wonder]

Thankfully teaching EFL has enabled me to be somewhere else on a Saturday night than a Chicago Rock Cafe/Yates's Wine Lodge or the dregs of the barrel that is Colchester Hippodrome.

I have clubbed it/larged it up/been found wandering inebriated and lost in many nightclubs in various countries in Europe and Asia..

And collected some pretty ripe experiences along the way not to mention a totally different perspective on the pile of crap that is an English nightclub.

My favourites nightclubs have to be the ones i went to in Thailand and Dubai.....corking places.... the worst...the statuesque mannequin Greek ones where no-one danced and Polish ones...half deserted and bereft of any atmosphere.

What are teachers favourite venues...where are they.....and do I have to wear a collar and shiny shoes to get in?????

Hm, can't talk about any of those places... I guess, due to lack of exposure, the best clubs I've seen are in Canadian college towns (you know the type, Kingston, Guelph, London, etc...) Half-decent music, cold beer and drunk sluts. Clubs in China suck, nothing but techno...

Better than the aforementioned Chicago Rock Cafe with their shiny shoe policy and drunk old slappers/ben sherman shirted wankers clientele.

I'd vote for Thailand or Berlin.

i went to a pretty good club in Honduras. well... i was fuc.ked up but it was funny. the daughters of american missionaries are sluts, man! the black honduran guys must pray for the day they go clubbin 'cos i saw a ton of em slinkin off to the bushes with 19yr old blonde americans in tow.

only annoying thing was nearly every hispanic girl there was a hooker.

What is a Chicago Rock Cafe?

I visited Leeds once, and remember going to a place, I think it was called "Chicago Rocks" or something. Naturally, as a native Chicagoan, I was disappointed to find it had nothing at all to do with my beloved hometown.

No hot dogs, deep - dish pizza, nothing! What a gyp.

Anyway, my favorite nightclub has to be Nebe in Prague. I guess it just has sentimental value for me - we used to go there all the time; sometimes we'd be the only ones in there on weekdays, though on Fridays & Saturdays it was packed. Cheap drinks, good - looking people, everybody relaxed and happy.

By the way, I met Heath Ledger there!

O.K., saw him would be a more accurate way of putting it. He was in town shooting a movie, and sat at the table right next to us! One of his cronies asked us for a light, and we were all falling over ourselves to light his cigarette! Yours truly did the honor, I'm (somewhat) pleased to say.

A Chicago Rock Cafe is usually a place of great architectural beauty and repute where and open minded intellectuals gather for discussion and cultural stimulation every Friday and Saturday night.

As befits an institution so fine and upstanding it has a policy whereby you need to be the proud wearer of shoes and trousers not forgetting the indispensible collar to gain admission.

Ralph Lauren/Burberry/Hackett and Tommy Hilfiger shirts are usually worn untucked/outside the trousers to signify the wearers high position in the established order of regulars.

It also denotes their ability to call everyone mate,wrap their souped up Astra round the nearest lamp-post and be a complete Chav......

I've been refused admission to Chicagos on as many occasions as I have been allowed in....and on those occasions I was allowed in spent most of the night wishing I hadn't!!

They typify in a nutshell everything that is wrong with provincial British nightlife......on the other hand if a totally wasted British slapper is what you're after don't think twice before steaming on in!!!

You also need to mention Jumpin' Jaks and Zanzibar in the list although nothing quite comes close to Chicago Rock.

I haven't been to any of these fine establishments for at least 18 months now but there isn't a day goes by that I don't think about them.

I'd say the best night club scene is in Barcelona, though a Colombian friend of mine put in a vote for Medellin :'Aqu� bailamos la salsa con la polla dentro'.

I'm such and old fogey that I didn't even know these Chicago Rock places exist. Still us graduates of Aunties Kitchen (Manchester circa 1970) have other memories.

im not sure if its still open but the Tambora Night Club and Bar in Blok M jakarta was the craziest place i have ever been to. Small, but a real riot. Anybody else know this place ?

Windows Roadside night club on Wei guo ren lu (if you know Chinese, you'll get the joke).

Cheap drinks, great 'potenial' and some feck'ed up foreigners..

My god, where is Capergirl or even some of our other serious posters? They wouldn't let you get away with this s.....t!

Do you guys know what you are like (and look like) when you are drunk? The girls need a drink or two, or three, or even more, to put up with you without vomiting! Short, fat and hairy (in all the wrong places), and to cap it all drunk, are not the most attractive features predestined to 'get a girl'.

And yes, the girls are probably in the club in the first place, for all the desperate reasons you are. And they will end up extremely drunk (like you), and with a lack of judgment induced by excessive alcohol consumption end up with a 'vomit making partner', again like you.

The difference is that they don't then decide to post on Dave's ESL Cafe, advertising the shortcomings of their 'chosen partner/s for the night".

You obviously haven't seen the drunk old slappers in a Chicago Rock Cafe.
If I ever succumbed to their 'charms' I'd be taking the first flight outta the country in embarrassment before I'd post about it on here.
