Gruesome by the accounts that I have heard. I have spoken to people who taught at Hail Teachers' College. Not good. Students who are not well-motivated and an administration that puts more stress on appearance than reality. |

Thanks for that Scot47.
I was assuming that because it was called a 'teachers college' that might mean that the students would be trainee teachers and therefore somewhat motivated. |

Student motivation depends upon the college. Hail is not the place for a westerner or non-Moslem. A lone American there was occassionally stoned by local children before the Iraq war.
Frequent delays in setting up payrol but will advance money and will eventually pay.
May insist that you pay for igama and another medical, illegal, but they do it.
Anticipate favoritism towards Brits.
Cheers! |

Where exactly is Hail? I have a Riyadh address for contact -as posted on the job board a short time ago.
Also, what kind of money do they pay? |

Ministry has teachers colleges all over kingdom.
Pay was low to middle in the past. No current knowledge.
Met a non-Moslem American in coffee shop who taught in Jeddah college, I do not know if he is coming back. Clear that they do not give a lot of thought to introducing teachers into community. He had to find his own housing. |

I have a colleague who worked in Hail and enjoyed it. He did manage to get a good salary; when they phoned Canada he wasn't there, his mother was, and she told the Dean there was no way here son could possibly work for such a low salary, so they upped it.
You are given an allowance to find your own accomodation. You should make a profit in Hail, though possibly you would have to stay a couple of years to recoup the investment in furniture.
One problem is that sometimes they pick you up at the airport and take you somewhere else. That is why Hail is always asking. Jeddah and Riyadh can hijack their staff but not vice-versa. |
