hi
are any of you listening into the bbc world service abroad getting poor reception. I'm using my usual sw radio but there seems to be a constant echo effect on reception. could anyone confirm this problem ? could it be something cosmic ?? ive tried changing frequency but still the echo. it sucks.
regards
basil

no, I'm not listening to the radio, but this kind of thing is often caused by solar activity. For how long has it been happening? If its only been the last day or less, that's probably your answer.

Either that, or you should stop listening to the radio with your head in a bucket! Wink

the other thing is that a transmitter might have gone bung somewhere and they're operating on half-power or bouncing a signal from a different transmitter somewhere else.

not much you can do about it really...

you could go to the bbc world website and do a feedback thingy if it continues...

good luck!

I spend a lot of time listening to shortwave. I've had similar experiences (sometimes close to a month)when reception suddenly goes bad. Atmospherics, mojo, whatever, it eventually always comes back which doesn't help you in the meantime.

Have you checked the antenna? I one had one snap in a desert windstorm.

I just saw a headline on BBC.com about there being a huge sunspot right now. This will surely cause problems.

I have to retract my last post. I've since read the whole article and it was talking about solar activity over the last 1000 years. There is no specific sunspot causing problems.

This leaves us with Gordon's bald spot as the primary cause. Apparantly radio waves are reflecting off his chromed head and not reaching the intended receivers. Gordon, would you mind putting on a hat? I've just requested a song and I don't want to miss it.
