Hi, just wondering if anyone has been to/knows anything about Baicheng, in the north east near Mongolia?
I've seen an advert for a job there that sounds really good - small town, countryside, not too westernised etc (but VERY cold!) But when I did a search for Baicheng on the internet I didn't find much at all, and what I did find didn't seem to match the description at all - it looked much bigger than 300,000 people, and quite modern!
So if anyone has actually been there, or heard good or bad stuff about it, please can you let me know?
Thanks |

Martin, Thanks for your reply. The advert is for the Teacher's college actually, so that'd be great if you could put me in touch.
The college are looking for a couple - I'd be going with my boyfriend, so at least I wouldn't be the only foreigner in town, but I do like the idea of going somewhere where there aren't too many westerners.
What I really wanted to ask is what is the town like, and what are the people like? I've not been to China before, so I guess I can't really compare it to other parts of China, but would you say it's quite a typical Chinese town? Is it built-up/industrial/big, or agricultural? Was there anything worth visiting nearby?
I have a friend from Henan who says that Southern China would be better, cos, apart from the warmer climate, the people are warmer and friendlier too! (not that she's biased!)
Whereabouts in China are you now?
Thanks again for your help |

You can not live anywhere in China without a Foreigner's Residence Permit. Neither can your boyfriend. You will both need your own permit.
When the authorities realize that you are both registered at the same address, and they will, you will need to produce a marriage certificate or find yourselves invited to leave China. Particularly outside Beijing and Shanghai where they still value old fashioned morals. |
