Does anyone have any leads for me for work in JKT? I am coming in September, and I have had a really hard time finding something that is decently paid (at least 12 million with housing included). EF has not been too serious, so I don't really want to consider them... only as a last resort. I have eight years experience, with TEFL diploma and bachelor's. I also teach Spanish and French. I am originally from the US, so I'm a native speaker. I am interested in teaching at a school or at companies. If anyone has any ideas or leads for me, I would really appreciate it. You can IM me or just leave a reply.

I'm not surprised that you've had a hard time, do you seriously think that anybody who has access to these kind of jobs will share it with anyone else? They'll keep these for themselves - we're all looking for these 'decent' jobs.

Apologies if I sound rude, but lets be realistic.

Ild agree with the Mountain-Biker. (nice pic by the way). Decent jobs are scarce and the well paid "school" ones are "iffy". Some people have posted saying "they know a guy who works for Binus, or at Sekola and gets 15 milion a year, but so what? Come out come out where-ever you are people and tell us how you got those jobs. do you have to be female? so you have to have a teaching degree or a masters, do you have to know somwone who is working there and get them drunk?

Part time business english teaching is an option, but lots of travel in traffic.

u cud try eec on jln sudirman. i worked for them for a few years long ago and they were always pretty reliable and paid reasonably well. pretty professional and good conditions and facilities. the owner - GJ - can go ape once in a while - people say he sometimes gets drugged up and uncouth - but just keep out of his way, avoid making waves or go through the motions with him and ur ok.

Why not take a job with one of the EF's. They'll pay you circa Rp6 juta + free housing. Then you'll have your morning free to work cash in hand at a Montessori or other private schools. Offer your skills for no less than Rp150 ribu/hour. If you work 9-12 say Mon, Wed, Fri - that's an additional Rp5.5 juta. So that's Rp11.5 juta + free housing. Close to what you were asking for. Naturally, you'd only do this being aware of the immigration risk involved with the 2nd gig.

If you are interested in this approach, steer clear of a Montessori school in K/Gading with a recruiter named Ms Mike. The woman's a Grade A psychopath.

What about ppl without a degree teaching in Indonesia? With three years of teaching experience though, one of which was full time ESL teaching.

How is the pay and the living?

Willy - I agree, the pay at EF is relatively shite. The EF branches I worked at all provide 'free' housing. By free, they pay Rp6.3 million/mo and provide housing/utilities on top of that. Other EF branches you'll find pay around Rp7 million, but deduct housing and maid costs from this amount. Six and half a dozen.

That's LS650, not 'ISO650'....
My housing deduction was 650,000 RP a month.

There are plenty of jobs that pay over 12 million plus housing. Apply to as many national plus schools as possible and you will get a response. They pay from $1500 - $3000 US plus housing per month. My school still needs expats and other schools are still searching.

here's a list of national plus schools. If you want money, decent holidays and good working conditions then these are excellent schools. I already have a job, I'm not threatened. Actually my school and many others are still actively seeking expat teachers.
Just contact them by email with your cv and you are bound to pick up something if you are a qualified teacher (there actually are some national plus schools that employ people with no teaching credentials!).
