I wear (US) women's size 10, and I have been told not to try to buy any shoes in Japan b/c they won't have my size. How about ski rental? Do they expect big-feet tourists and have boots in larger sizes? Thanks! |

You should be able to rent mens's ski boots. (My husband wears a men's 12 and he has been able to rent bowling shoes here in the past) I wouldn't bet on ever finding any feminine looking shoes, though. I wear a N. American size 7 or 7.5 and was told by a clerk that they didn't carry certain shoes in men's sizes (I think she may have just been trying to be somewhat snotty toward me at the time) |

Hey,
Having lived in Japanese ski country now for over two years and one of my best freinds owning a ski gear rental place, I can say you'll have some big (sorry) problems finding rental boots. Some of the bigger resorts might have sizes that big but don't count on it.
And while you may find boots that big, it also really depends on the width of your feet. Had a friend with big feet who found a pair of ski boots that were the right size length-wise, but Japanese feet (like most eveything else) tend to be slight, so they still couldn't get into them because their feet were too wide.
But, if ya take up snow-boarding, you'll find you'll have an easier time finding rental gear that fits.
Good luck!
