Hi all,
I have just secured a job in Italy and will fly over to take it up near the end of August. I get 1000 euros a month which seems ok but I'm just wondering how difficult people find it to get private students? I presume that you can't save and live and travel on a 1000 euro p/month salary? Anyway, any feedback would be insightful.
Many thanks!

Hi Manx

A lot depends on where you are. Rome, Milan and Venice are quite expensive places to live in, but other places are a little cheaper. Apart from the salary, do you have anything else thrown in, like subsidised accommodation? Do you get holiday pay?

I'd be a little careful of mentioning private students to your employers - just in case they think it runs contrary to the terms of your contract.

Thanks Teacher on Rome,
I do get paid for my holidays and actually get an extra month's bonus salary. I do have to pay for my own housing though - which, from what I see here, is fairly typical. The school is being really helpful - they've found me a cheap place to stay for the first month until I can hook myself up with something and I am getting a travel allowance to help cover the costs of travelling to Italy. I'll be up near Venice in a place called Treviso. The school actually encouraged me to take private students so I could save some money - so that shouldn't be a problem. I feel like I have a good deal and everyone I've talked with from the school on the phone and e-mailed have been really helpful and enthusiastic.

Good for you! It sounds like you're working for a good school. Many of them don't offer contracts with benefits, so at least you have the advantage of knowing that you'll be paid the same every month. This will also help you when you're trying to get a bank account and so on.

Hope you enjoy your time in Treviso. I haven't been there, but as it's Italy, it can't be that bad!

hi Manx1

Do you mind telling what is the school name? I'm interested in applying to schools in Europe. I know it will be difficult for non EU members so I'm looking around to schools that are willing to hire non EU members.

Thanks much is appreciated!
