I've had a quick scan through previous messages, but I'm not sure that any help my particular situation.

I'm currently in the UK (home) but about to set off for Vietnam before arriving in China in late August. I'm in the middle of sorting out a job and have a couple of things in the pipeline. All say they'll sort out the Z Visa paperwork. However, I cannot see anyway of getting the paperwork (Letter of Invitation + ??) before I leave for Vietnam - allowing 5-10 days for postage. Can I apply for my Z Visa in Hong Kong (or even Hanoi?)? In terms of paperwork, could I just get a faxed copy of the paperwork (faxed to, say, HK) or would it need to be orginial (I have a funny feeling I know the answer to that one). If no, I guess I need to find a way to collect these documents on arrival in HK.

I note that when applying for jobs in Taiwan/South Korea you have to produce your orginial degree certificate for verification at an embassy. Is this also the case for China? I don't really want to be travelling around the world with my precious (if replaceable) certificate!

Thanks

The faxed copy of my letter of invitation worked like a charm at the Chinese Consulate when I applied for my Z visa. Likewise copies of my degree have been sufficient, although I did bring the original with me.

Carry the original with you. if in a frame (two of ours are) pack them and hand carry on your flight. and bring sealed transcripts. and a couple opened but certified by your degreee granting school. sounds like a problem - but - it eliminates a lot of problems down the road. and the students are fascinated to see a "real" degree from a western school. I have one in the original leather folder. and the FAO's love them. makes their job so much easier. also, the same with TEFL or CELTA or any certificates. bring the originals.
