Sounds like the working conditions and wages are really unacceptable at QP. So I suggest that all teachers working there QUIT!

If this is true go to upper management and complain about the situation. Perhaps the upper management would work to improve the wages and conditions. It is easy to write complaints on this board but it takes courage to go to your boss and stand up for your rights. Teachers at QP you need to be stronger.

NOOOOO! Don't start another QP thread! Stop giving these guys a forum to complain in, the others were locked for a reason. There is no need to continue to dredge up this stuff.

True, very true....however, just to play a little devil's advocate, if I am not mistaken, the "QP is hell" threads were dominated by two people out of how many in total?

It would be nice to have a better representation of the EFL staff there before completely writing them off. I don't recall ( and I'm too lazy to back check) if there have been other threads in the recent past about the operation there. Having said that, the apparantly factual info is bad enough, ie salary and housing situations.

ps, I'm not a QP stooge.....

There are two kinds of QP teachers; those on direct hire ( a small minority who are generally well paid) and those who work for the contractor, now Griffith, who are paid the paltry 9000QR a month.

The second are normally called in for short term contracts of a few months, since QP is notoriously poor at scheduling its training sessions to coincide with the staff it has available. I believe that many leave after the short contracts, and many leave before.

Griffith then sends QP replacements.

This appears to have been the pattern for many years.

I didn't like the conditions and I did quit.

It wouldn't do any good to complain to upper management, they don't care. We only warn others, like a lighthouse warns sailors.

Whether you heed the warning is up to you. The rocks await you either way.

As far as those who stay with the sponsor: It's usually those who can't get a good position anywhere else. If you like working with no-life's and other assorted losers, QP is for you.

No matter how many people quit, they always seem to find new suckers in these places. We're all victims of the system, some of need the job so we grit out teeth and hang in there. Some people can afford to say up yours and move on. Some of us just put up with the status quo because we have a different agenda. Some people just suffer in silence. A lot of sufferers around.

The salary is over 11,000 + transport allowance/or shared car.

A lot of people give private lessons to supplement. Or you can wash cars in the Villagio parking lot.

Some people are forced to quit or given no options. Departure should be a personal decision. Unless you have done something illegal, there should be a system of appeal against illogical decisions and personal vendettas to get rid of employees.

I have to say that I find this rather unrealistic. I spent 15 years in US accounting department and more than 15 in MIddle East education. In both those places, the bosses had the right to terminate any employee at most any time... whether for cause, reduction in force, or just because they didn't like you. In the US, you can show up in the morning and be told to empty your desk... they don't even have to give you a reason. (only to the government if you try to get unemployment pay - and they are commonly successful in blocking you...)

In the Gulf, one has a contract, but both parties can break it - the employers more easily than the employees. You can be kicked out in the middle of the year if a student or supervisor has the wasta. You can be not renewed. As our students say... That's the life...

If you find some place where the employees/teachers get to make the rules, do let us know. (maybe France? they seem to strike all the time...) It would be nice, but common sense says that it ain't gonna happen in education any time soon.

VS. If you've worked in the ME for so long you know that vendettas are a common tactic used by incompetent and/or insecure bosses to get back at staff. You don't have to be a bad teacher to get a bad reference, being on bad terms with the boss is enough. Being more competent than the boss can also be a problem. The incompetents hate being shown up by competence. Some people are just downright mean. You know the type. You've probably worked with them.

People develop huge egos out here, particularly when they get promoted to administrative positions they would never have had back in their own country. Sometimes it's simply a matter of being in the right place at the right time with regard to promotion. Being a boss doesn't mean you are the right person for the job; it could just be a case of knowing the right people, pulling the right strings or pushing the right buttons. How many people are actually appointed because they have the right background and training in this part of the world? It's usually a sham and a scam. Some of the nastiest people I've met and taught with happen to be fellow-Americans which makes me f .....g mad. These guys give the rest of us good ole boys a bad name. We're not all creeps. Some of us like living out here and like the people we teach and work with. Some of us don't. Those are the ones who become problem people.
