....okay, this is not strictly ESL related, but I thought someone here might know.


What's the difference between an MA and an MSc? I know MA = Masters of Arts and MSc = Masters of Science, but I am looking at an MSc in Comparative and General Literature ---- why MSc? Is it really any different from the MA in Comparative Lit? The program of this MSc looks exactly the same to me as the MA Comp Lit at other universities, i.e. 12 months, 2 semesters of Literary Theory and several 1-semester literature-of-choice classes, plus dissertation.In fact, the only real difference I see is that the dissertation is some 5000 words longer!

This is at a Scottish university (Edinburgh), by the way. All the other programs I looked at were English/Welsh -but then, why would it be called MSc in Scotland?
