|
|
Hello,
I'm just in the process of applying for my Working Holiday Visa to go to Japan. (I'm in Canada)
I was just wondering how much information I should put on the "detailed itinerary" that they ask for.
My boyfriend and I already have teaching jobs in Hiroshima, so I'm not too sure what to put down.
Any help/advice/tips are much-appriciated! |

When I filled that out I basically just put down things such as
August 19th September 19th Nagoya:
To visit a few friends and explore the area.
Visit the Nagoya Castle and also Atsuta shrine.
I also would like to explore the culture as much as possible by taking a few classes of Kendo.
Find work to support travel.
I went to a Japanese tourism site and found little tid bits of info there. When I applied the ppl at the consulate didnt seem too concerned on the amount of detail I put into it. Mind you I would put enough to sound assuring. Also you may want to specify what type of work you will look for to support your travel. I was asked to include this in my itinerary at the last minute while applying.
Important thing to remember, if you tell them you have already secured work in Japan they will most likely deny you the visa.
The WHV is for visitors to travel and find work when needed to support that traveling.
If you have any questions feel free to email me.

If you dont mind me asking, when are you headed for Hiroshima? |

I thought the itinerary was just the time and dates of your flight details. Do they really want to know everything else?

No, they explicitly ask for an itinerary covering your first six months.
My problem with the WHV is that I need to show evidence of having secured a return flight. However, as I want to stay the full 18 months available to Australians, how do I do this since you can't book or purchase a ticket that's good for a date more than 12 months out? Am I supposed to buy a return I won't use or another one way back and just incur the cancellation fee?
If absolutely necessary, I wouldn't actually mind buying 2 returns over the 18 month period and spending a week back home at the half way mark but as the WHV is a single entry deal, I'd be worried about my visa status upon reentry.
How have other Australians dealt with this? |

For your return ticket, I was kind of in the same boat. I don't know how long I'm going to be staying in Japan for.
Have you looked into buying an open-ended return ticket? I'm flying from Vancouver BC to Nagoya with Japan Airlines, and if I cancel my flight I can get everything back but $200. Maybe look into cancellation insurance to see how much it is?
I'm pretty sure for multiple-entry visas that you sort that out once your'e in Japan, but I could be wrong. |

Well, it's tricky because even an open ended ticket needs the return leg to be taken within a year of the outbound one. I'm thinking of getting one though and trying to change the return flight date closer to the date when my preferred return is no longer more than a year out. Sorry if that's a bit confusing.
However, if I can get multiple entry attached to my visa when I'm in country it would be nice and would obviate the need to dick around with changing flight arrangements. Cheap tix like Garuda's make plan changes REALLY expensive.
If Peppy's will let me take a week 9 months halfway mark, I could use it to see my dog and have a drink with mates. Hmmm... oh yeah! Mum might be happy to see me too!
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep my fingers crossed. |

When I got my working holiday from the consulate in Toronto, they were kind enough to let me borough a travel guide. From this travel guide, I was able to write down places that I wanted to visit. They were very helpful. |

where the hell did "borough" come from - unusual typo there.
My fiancee went home during her year on a WHV - she just got the reentry permit, left and came back. Neither of us worried about her WHV expiring and it was never an issue. |
