Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not I could bring my Canadian Triband phone to Japan? What frequency do they use?
Thanks

If I remember correctly, your tri-band phone usually will operate on 900 800 and 1800 feqs. Most tri band phones use a SIMM card. Does your phone have a SIMM card? It would be a small removable card found in the battery compartment.
Here is the skinny... Japan does not issue SIMM cards for phones running on GSM or others. But, your current carrier may have international roaming if they know there is a network up and running in Japan. But I dont believe that there is.
Japan kinda has a lock on the cell business here. That is why most phones are thrown away, or get stuck in a dresser and forgotten about when the user upgrades. Phones bought inside Japan can rarely be used outside of Japan. On the same account very few phones will operate in Japan that did not originate there.
My guess would be that your current phone will not work in Japan.
Japan has way better phones anyways!!!!! |

Leave it at home, it'll be more trouble and more importantly more expense than it's worth. Just get a Japanese one when you get here. |
