Hey all,

Two scenarios for entering China...

If I arrive into Beijing International Airport from San Diego or Las Angeles California USA with a business visa should I buy a one-way or round-trip ticket?

If I arrive into Hong Kong International airport with the intention of taking a train to mainland China should I buy a one-way or round-trip ticket? If I have a one-way ticket for Hong Kong do I need to show them proof of having already purchased a train ticket or something like that?

Thanks for your help peoples Smile.

No, one-way tickets are valid enough for the Chinerse (and that includes the HK authorities). Note that if you fall on hard times the Chinese will simply refer you to your own country's representative or let you starve to death!
But last year, some new arrivals complained about a rule being enforced over in the USA and/or Canada: They were not allowed to board a plane on an international route without a round-trip ticket.
I don't know the current siutation there.

I had the same question last year. You might run into a snag with the airline. Seems as some won't let you board without a return ticket. I hated forking out the extra money but upon arrival it was a nice security blanket knowing that I could always leave if I wanted to. I bought a 3 month open return and I would suggest you do too. I think the outfit I went thru was called ticket-xpress out of Carmichael California. The price was pretty good conidering it was last minute. $800 for 3 month open return. From Portland Or. To SF. Seoul. Hong Kong. On Korean Air. You never know what may happen with the school etc... This is China so you want to cover your assets.
