Hey, anyone working for AEON know what the regional winter-hardship allowance is all about??? I'm going to Ishikawa prefecture, which is one of the areas mentioned as qualifying for this hardship payment, but although it is mentioned twice in the manual, it's not very specific, and doesn't give any details as to how you get it, how much it is, whether you get it automatically etc...?
Any comments on this? Hokkaido, Aomori, Iwate, Akita, Yamagata, Niigata, Toyama, Fukui, Tottori and Shimane prefectures also qualify, anyone in those areas that can tell me a bit more about this? Just for interest Smile

Also, has anyone ever bothered taking either a bike or skis with them to Japan? Is it worth it?

I live in Sapporo, Hokkaido. While I don't know about AEON's hardship allowance, let me tell you about winters here.

Five months of snow, from November to end of April. LOTS of snow, about 6 meters on average. Coldest temps in Sapporo are around -15C, but in other regions you may see as low as -30C.

Thanks Glenski, maybe someone else knows more about the allowance?

Yes I'm aware of the cold winters in Hokkaido, and although I've heard it's not quite as bad in Kanazawa, it still does snow (and rain!) a lot from what I can tell, with about 2m of snow or something very similar.
I'm stocking up on thermals Smile

I am (or at least have been) used to cold winters though, growing up in Norway, it was quite often -15 or lower, and we never did manage to keep shovelling the snow in winter. But hey, I've had a break, so will be kinda nice to get back to some 'real' winter weather! Smile
