hallu people,
i'm reposting this thread from the job journal to sympathize for another foreign teacher and friend who has had a f*cked up deal. be careful if you're ever going in this school. i heard they (the school) were able to fool other FTs again.
<<<< Beware of cheaters and liars!!!
Some lessons are learned the hard way. Yes, my experience as a teacher of YPFLS taught me that sometimes it is not the salary that really matters but more importantly, school leaders or administrators who are honest and trustworthy.
It was during the second semester in the school that I experienced the worst attack on my personality and my profession. The leaders decided to cancel my contract in May, based on the lies that the Translator/Coordinator invented but has failed to prove. Imagine, after letting me teach for 6 months, she said that I am unprofessional, my students don't like me, I am inexperienced, was always late, etc. She succeeded in convincing the leaders that I am not a good teacher and that was enough reason for them to cancel my contract. This they did after deducting 300 rmb and 500 rmb from my salaries in March and April respectively, for allegedly being late in class. They even told me to leave the City and China immediately as if I am a terrorist or criminal! The leaders did not give me a chance to defend myself. I have reported my case to the City Mayor and he intervened on my behalf. He recommended me to teach the staff of a hotel in Lanzhou (capital city of Gansu).
Looking back, I should have learned from what happened to the 3 foreign teachers whom the school had kicked out ahead of me. Originally, we were seven but in 6 months, the school has managed to ease out 4 for us and I was the most unfortunate because I was not paid for breach of contract and only 2 thirds of my air ticket was refunded. The school leaders have surely learned how to cheat better this time. Either they pocketed the money they saved from my salary and air ticket or used it to hire that British guy who is now waiting in Lanzhou. Now I realized that everything was planned long before. This was their way of railroading to replace me with another foreign teacher.
The Coordinator and leaders must have thought they have fooled me and the rest of the foreign teachers. We are not stupid! Im going to report them to the foreign affairs office. I may not be paid what is due me but I will not take this sitting down.
So to those who are tempted by the relatively high salary that YPFLS is offering, think a million times. You may have a good pay but you will not have job security because the school leaders are only good at cheating and making money out of hiring foreign teachers. They are very inexperienced in handling foreign teachers.>>>>
Lesson: BE EVER VIGILANT AND CAREFUL. THE PEOPLE IN THIS SCHOOL WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANY SIGN OF WEAKNESS YOU SHOW!!! |
