I've been living in Japan for 2 years and my company has provided my health insurance. It was private insurance, not the Japanese Health Insurance program. Now that I'm changing schools, I have to find new insurance. I heard that the NHI is cheap, but only for the first year. Seeing as I have been working for 2 years, they'll probably charge me a bucketload of yen per month. No good. Does anyone have good, cheap, private health insurance?

This may your third year of insurance but when you sign up with NHI the first year will be cheap as they assume your previous years income was zero. the SECOND year of NHI is expensive a sits based on your previous years income WITH NHI. They dont count how many years you have had insurance but how many years you have enrolled in NHI.

As for your other question I cant help you but the Health section on the NOVA general union website lists the different private plans in japan including Global health care etc.
