So here's the situation, I'd like to hear what other examiners would do in this position.

It's part 2, individual long turn. Student B has finished their turn and it's Student As short answer question on that topic. You realise that the question is exactly the same as one of the questions you asked Student A in part 1 of the test (for example "What sort of music do you like").

Would you:
a) Make up another short answer question but then knowingly deviate from the interlocutor frame.

b) Ask the question in the frame but then risk giving the candidate the idea that you haven't been listening to what he said earlier / you don't care that you repeat questions.

Before anyone says, yes I do check ahead to see what the questions are and choose the part 1 questions so that they don't clash. I'd just had a late night and made a slip, that's all!
