Hello, I have been checking out teaching in Asia for some time now and am about ready to take the leap. I am 33 years old with no college degree, but a fair amount of business experience.

I will go to a TEFL course in Thailand before heading over to VN. Are there any government restrictions regarding working without a degree?

I am probably heading to an area like Denang, and staying away from the "big" cities. Is there plenty of work around there? How about pay? What to the apartments rent for? Will I be able to save a bit if I don't go out too much?

Thank you for any input/advise you can can give.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't think you will be able to get a work visa without having a university degree. However, I hear there is plenty of work under the table for those who can't get a business visa. (I've also heard that the majority of foreigners teach in VN under the table, on a tourist visa, even if they have a degree and could get a business visa).

Because you don't have a degree you may end up having to start in one of the lower paying jobs, although I'm sure your TEFL cert. will help you secure something with a decent wage.

Not too sure what the rate of pay is like outside of HCMC and Hanoi. I do know that the cities are where the better money is.

I wrote to TEFL Intl who forwarded my questions onto their VN branch. They stated that there was no requirement for a college degree in VN. If anyone has any suggestions on quiet living areas and reputable employers, please contact me. Thanks to all!!
