My background is Gr 12 Eng, Global Tesol, and running a daycare for 12 yrs with kids 18 mths to 12yrs. My first teaching position will be in Xiamen. I have been told that I will be teaching 2-6 & 7-12yrs old.(There are 90 students in the entire school). I have not been informed yet about what lesson plans are available. Any suggestions to help me get the first week off to a good start? |

Your classes will run for 30 minutes, perhaps 20 in the case of pupils younger than 4 years.
You will no doubt do the English crash courses - one a day with each class. Have you been informed of how many periods you will be doing???
I am a little perplexed at the extravagant age group mixture - there are preschoolers and primary school kids. Maybe it is a training centre, and you will give the primary school kids extracurricular English!
I suggest you familiarise yourself with kindergarten teaching; this is NOT the same as teaching primary school-age kids!
To begin with, you need to be energetic, enterprising and be full of ideas! This is no doubt the opposite of what your Chinese teachers will be!
There is another forum - the Elementary Education forum, where you can post this kind of question more profitably! |
