My wife and I (both in our early fifties) are considering teaching university in China. We both have previous teaching experience in Canada and in Korea. We have graduate degrees. Maybe some of you could help us. We are looking for six month contracts.

About when would these contracts begin? What month does university begin in China? Also, where do you think would be a good place to locate?

We would like a place that has some western culture available and a place where there are some older teachers. We are not too interested in locating in a remote area.

Please help

The new term begins at the end of August, in most places they have teacher meetings on the last day in August, and school gets into swing on first of September.
You can safely choose just about any place in China these days and find enough Western conveniences. I highly suggest Fujian, Zhejiang, Shanghai, all on the east coast, or Guangdong province. Further inland, you might find Wuhan very interesting. Or Xi'an in the north.
It is advisable to study a map and to find out if your country has a consulate anywhere near. Chengdu is a city with an American consulate, as are Shanghai, Shenyang and Guangzhou.
You can also try Shenzhen on the border with Hong Kong, which has another US consulate.
