I'm currently looking into relocating to Matsuyama in mid-August. I've found a position already but now I'm on the search of living accomodations. Does anyone have any suggestions for me. Basically, I'm looking for affordable housing. So if anyone has any helping suggestions, it would be so greatly appreciated. Tnanks// |

Hi Adomo. I've been living and teaching in Matsuyama for eight months now. You may visit the EPIC and MIC offices when you get here. They're two centres which help foreigners living in the Ehime prefecture with all their needs. Which school will you be working for, if you don't mind me asking? I wish you lots of luck with your new job!!

Adomo,
Do you know about government housing? Its the best.
My friend just moved in next to us and I have another friend who got a really sweet deal in Chiba. They are everywhere. You do not need a guarantor provided you can prove your income. And when you split you get all your money back and you do not have to re-up every two years.
Congratulations with the new job and all the best to you.
Sincerely,
sweetsee |

I take it the Japanese Government helps supply housing to foreigners. Could you give me more details on this type aid.
Cheers |

Ah....no and no.
They are government housing units that anyone can apply to live in. There is no help or aid. |

I would guess you are referring to prefectural apartments or "kodan". The central government is not in the business of apartment rentals but public housing is available from local government and they often have lotteries for people looking for cheap housing. Not sure in Matsuyama where you would ask though. |

That's it, "kodan". In our case there was no lottery, first come first served.
Worth checking out. Just ask anyone near where you are looking for it. |

Is there a possibility that someone out there would be able help me by means of a spare room if it comes down to it. I'm a 25 year old Canadian citizen who is willing to take a helping hand from a kind individual. I'm open to suggestions... |

I will be arriving in Matsuyama on the 12th of August at around noon. I've been searching for housing at this point with the aid of my Japanese fiance but have no definate answers yet. She's come accross some fairly reasonably priced accomodations which are not to far from the heart of the city. Thanks for any help you can give me. Ciao Ciao... [/quote] |

Thanks again Mike for the lead. The online support page shows housing but it's a little ways from the city, about an hour away to be exact. |
