Hi
I begin teaching in Banyoles in September. Has anyone ever been there to tell me what the place is like?
Thanks |

Hi,
The town of Banyoles is fairly small and quiet; most people know it for its lake, which is very beautiful. It's not far from Girona and about 2-3 hours from Barcelona, so you can visit both for the day or weekend. The province of Girona is really beautiful and if you have access to a car, you should visit as many places as you can, including the Costa Brava.
I would say you'll probably need to learn Catalan if you decide to stay. Although people will understand Spanish, they will probably be reluctant or simply unaccustomed to using it. Also, they'll appreciate you making the effort to learn Catalan.
If I were you, I'd ask the school to put you in touch with other teachers at the school who can give you a better idea of what it's like to live there. |

When in Catalanya learn Catalan and say you like football! If you have a basic knowledge of Catalan the locals will appreciate you showing an effort to learn their language which will be reciprocated by your image and name having a greatly rising stock. This will lead to greater social opportunities and if you're into sports you'll be having many days out at Camp Nou for the football. |
