Hey, I'm a new teacher, recently got my TEFL certificate from a reputable language school, and I have some experience as a volunteer ESL teacher in several highschools (in CR), as well as volunteer ESL work for a local community college here in the US. I have also lived on four continents, so travel and culture shock are nothing new to me, plus I speak fluent spanish.
Anyway, I will be moving back to Costa Rica later this year, possibly as early as mid september. My schedule is very flexible and I wanted to get advice on when would be a good time to head for CR to look for a job, and what should I expect, especially being somebody who has no college education, but very determined to work and live in CR.
Any and all advice would be very appreciated.

You might want to come down with some reserve funds, since if you end up working for a company that teaches onsite at businesses, it can take a month or two before you prove yourself reliable and get a decent number of hours. Other than that, you should also be warned that the whole country takes a vacation for two weeks in December, so apparently it's kind of a forced vacation for teachers as well. January is when classes pick up again, however, and I hear they go pretty strong through the summer. I've only been down here for about 3 months, so a lot of this is what I've heard gathered from talking with other teachers. |

Cheza,
Contact me by email at [email protected]
I can send you a list of schools (that's too long to post here) with their contact info and my own comments about what they are like to work for.
