Sapporo area is good for it, so I'm told. I don't ski or snowboard, but thousands flock here from all over the country for it.

There are plenty of places here in Niigata-ken. The closest one to my house is about a 20-minute drive, and there are three within about 45 minutes. Dozens more within a couple of hours. Some are huge resorts with multiple lifts, their own hotels, etc., and some are no more than a single lift/run.

How expensive is it to get a ski pass for a day anyway? (approx... I realise it must be different for different areas).
What about renting snowboard or ski gear?

I usually only get half-day passes, which are between 2500 and 3500. I think all-day passes are 5000ish.
