|
|
Hi ,
I am looking to teach English in Asia. I am in my mid 40's in age and have been in information technology field for over 15 years.
I wanted to take a break and live overseas. Currently I am working and living in the US. I was born in Asia but I am a native English speaker.
Currently, I have been looking for school to get my TESOL education. I have found a number of them in Thailand. I am interested in the TESOL program at Chiang Mai University in Thailand http://www.cmutefl.com/ .
Can anyone comment on this program?
Also, which TESOL schools are in South Korea or Japan that have a good reputatioin? I have searched online, but have not found many. I would like to teach in either Japan or South Korea, but I know it would be a challenge because I have no formal teaching experience yet.
TIA |

I can't comment on the Chiang Mai program; I know nothing about it.
Questions:
Do you have a bachelors degree?
Are you looking to teach children or adults?
Are you considering teaching EFL short or long term? |

You don't need any formal teaching experience to be an EFL teacher in Japan. Most newbies don't. The main question is whether you have a bachelor's degree (for visa purposes). |

yes, I do have a BS degree in CIS.
Do you need teaching experience to get a job in Japan?
I heard Japan is a tough country to get a teaching job. Is it still true?
After doing some teaching for several months, I may want to return to IT field. |

A co-worker did their programme last summer. He recommended it. Had 10 years of teaching experience, still learned somethings, hated lesson planning though. Said making materials was a pain as well. I guess they didn't have many materials. |
