Hi,

Clinton visited Toronto recently to promote his book & was mobbed like a rock star by thousands of Canadians of different ages, genders & backgrounds. It would seem to me that if Canadians were to vote in American elections they would vote for the Democrats in masses. Bush is very unpopular in Canada. There was a Macleans magazine cover which spoke to that fact.

Here's what Canadians thought about voting in the next US election:

And how they feel about Bush:

Here's the article about Clinton in Canada:

Canadians just barely voted in our own election in June:

Here's what happened when Michael Moore had a few comments about it:

What I meant by the above was not that not very many Canadians voted in our election (although the numbers are dwindling) but that we just barely had an election.. Wink

ps most of the Americans I met overseas seemed to be Democrats..

Now before any Americans reading this who are Republicans & don't like what I put here..one of my best American guy friends is..gulp.. Republican, voted for Bush & is actually a really nice guy! Wink

Quote:

THE POUTINE INCIDENT

Canadians are chuckling over George Bush's on-air answer when a comic posing as a reporter made up a story that Canadian Prime Minister "Jean Poutine" had endorsed him. "I appreciate his strong statement, he understands I believe in free trade," Bush replied.

"He understands I want to make sure our relations with our most important neighbor to the north of us, the Canadians, is strong and we'll work closely together," he continued.

Canada's prime minister is Jean Chretien, not Poutine, and he has endorsed no one in U.S. politics. Poutine is a fast food meal of french fries, gravy and cheese curd popular in French-speaking Quebec.

The stunt was pulled by comic Rick Mercer from "This Hour Has 22 Minutes," a satirical TV show in Canada. Mercer, who sets up politicians on both sides of the border for laughs, buttonholed Bush at a campaign event in Michigan last month and fired several questions at him about a Prime Minister Poutine. The CBC program showed the exchange twice last week.

The real prime minister's office took the episode in stride, offering this response: "Clearly, Canada is not in the Bush leagues."

Seth: Many thanks for the informative post. Not too much new in it. Clinton --- like Bruce Springsteen, Jerry Seinfeld, The Beatles, O.J. Simpson, Princess Di and others --- has achieved Celebrity Cult status. No matter what he does ---- or, most significantly, what he FAILED to do --- people will like him. In a free, capitalist society, that's as it should be. I have no argument with that. Bush, on the other hand, is falsely accused of having "stolen" the last presidential election. But this is not the only reason the man has generated such "Cult Loathing." The guy isn't articulate; he's at times barely conversant in normal English. He also speaks with a Texas accent and has a 'good 'ol Texas boy' manner. And much of our society's self-annointed cultural elite disdains everything about his mannerisms.

In 1973-74, as a Democrat and a Liberal, I worked very diligently toward Nixon's impeachment. In early '74, Nixon was indeed impeached. For Perjury and Obstruction of Justice. He subsequently resigned, but only because he knew he lacked the support necessary in the Congress to successfully fight off conviction in the Senate. He resigned in disgrace.

In l992, I voted for Clinton. In October, '93, he allowed U.S. Rangers and Paratroopers to be slaughtered and dragged through the streets of Somalia without answering this decadent act, thereby showing the entire world that the U.S. could be pushed around; that we were not willing to take casualties. I knew then that I had made a horrible mistake in viewing him not as the draft-dodging coward he turned out to be. In subsequent years, I followed him closely. The man lied every time he opened his mouth. The sex with Monica was extremely minor. Though, discussing troop movements in Bosnia and major economic legislation with key committee members by phone ---- while getting his d-i-c-k s-u-c-k-e-d --- is typical only of pure trailer trash.

In 1998, Clinton was impeached. Of Perjury and Obstruction of Justice. But he escaped conviction in the Senate and was allowed to finish his term of office.

I have been, for the most part, a very liberal, quite pragmatic voter throughout my adult life. And many of the finest American politicians belong to the Democratic Party. Men such as Lee Hamilton, co-Chairman of the 9/11 Commission. Splendid man. I wish he had the MTV sex appeal to run for office. I'd vote for him. But he doesn't and he won't. And I will never again vote for a Democratic presidential candidate. Both parties are corrupt, because it is impossible to successfully mediate the conflicting interests of such an extremely diverse ---- and self-indulgent --- society such as ours. But the Democratic Party is surely the lowest form of political machinery since Boss Tweed and Tamanny Hall. I plan to once again vote for Bush. And I'm reasonably confident that he'll win. Even without the support of such political luminaries as Bruce Springsteen, Linda Ronstadt and k.d.lang.

But whoever wins the election, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and trust him to do his best. And I think either man will definitely try to cope with the inhuman problems to the best of his ability. But will the sniping from both sides continue? You betcher ass it will. We've become a very contentious, increasingly ideologically-driven society.

Incidentally, most of my best friends are very liberal Democrats. We simply ignore the other's politics.

Again, thank you for the post!

Best wishes,
extoere
