Hi,
I am looking for a cheap ticket to get from Kansai to Brisbane on April 30th. I will return a mere five days later on May 4th. Does anyone know of any deals or good airlines I should check for rates. I checked quite a few and the rates were insane. Also, does anyone know about going on a cargo flight--the idea of a carrying some random package seems totally illegal, but is there a safe, legit way to do it?

Unfortunately, that's the sad reality of Golden Week. Every airline will put their prices up. The best thing is to see if you can arrange your trip outside of that period.

That really sucks, my only vacations are national holidays. So much for making long distance relationships work.

If it's any consolation... long distance relationships never work anyway, even with cheap airfares.

That's the bummer about having national holidays as your only holidays... It's always peak season.

i beg to differ. i have had a long distance relationship canada/japan for 10 months now. it works. you have to arrange to see eachother about once every 4 months. i have a web camera as does my boyfriend we see and talk to each other every morning for 20 minutes as i get ready for work. if you really love someone and they are the person for you it will work. it was hard at the beginning, but your relationship adjusts and you just make it work. if anything, our relationship is stronger than ever.

original poster: instead of you flying out, would it be cheaper for someone to fly into japan?

I always thought the whole "long distance relationships don't work" thing was just something lazy people said, but it sucks to say, its true. You can only float on the idea of someone and their dulcet tones for so long and then you've got to end it. That being said, I'm going to continue dating my Aussie mate (har har--sorry, that was really cheesy) until it is too painful to continue. I suppose you could say I am a masochist.

I stick to inside Japan travel. Still not cheap, but possible.

Thanks for writing Lindsay. I would like to agree with long distance relationships working, and in many cases I'm sure it is possible, but as much as I adore my beau and he me, I don't think we are going to be able to see each other for at least a year. That is, if I am not able to go during Golden week. We are both locked into jobs that don't allow for any flexibility, and since we haven't seen each other since last March when we met in Thailand, our situation is looking pretty bleak. We talk daily either online or on the phone (thanks to an extremely cheap phone card from Oz), but I can't pay $3400 USD to see him even if he does cover everything after the flight and he can't get time to see me.

Who knows though, things tend to come together when they are supposed to. So I am not going to totally throw this out, but I can't continue to get excited about someone who I may not see for a year.
