|
|
Hey folks,
My wife is from Costa Rica, and I'm Canadian. We're hoping to spend a year teaching in Japan if we can, me English, and her Spanish. Does anyone know of good Spanish schools in Japan that would be looking for a native speaker? Has anyone had experience teaching for these schools?
The only one I could find is NOVA, are there smaller schools too, or is the best option to go with a big one like NOVA or JET. Does anyone know of any places that have a small latin community?
Thanks,

There is not a high demand for Spanish among Japanese- the most popular foreign languages after English are Chinese, French and German. She may be able to get a job teaching part time at NOVA (she will probably need a degree for the visa, or have a dependent visa) and they may ask her to teach some English as well. At my university last year there were Spanish teachers but they needed Masters degrees.
There are communities of South Americans with Japanese ancestry living in Japan. Many live in the Nagoya-Aichi area and I think there may be a few in Shizuoka as well. Brazilian-Japanese etc tend to live spread out among the Japanese population rather than form "ghettoes" of people living together. |
