I live in Ontario, Canada, I'm 23 and have recently graduated with a 4 year university business degree. I would like to go anywhere in the world (except middle east) to teach english.I have to be back before Jan 15/2005. Do I need a TESOL? Is it possible to go for that short amount of time? Anyother info like expected pay, recruting firms I should use etc would be very much appreciated. Thanks a ton!

"Do I need my TESOL?"

Thailand - No
Taiwan - No
China - No
Japan - No
Korea - No

You have to be back before January 15, 2005 Shocked

So, lets' see....That leaves you with September, October, November, December - 4 months, right.

I've got a feeling you'll have trouble since most contracts are for a year.

Rice Paddy Daddy is on the ball here as far as East Asia is concerned. You don't need the TESOL but it might be useful for you to teach if you don't have any experience. Otherwise you could ask to help out for a couple of days at a local government school or to teach immigrants.

You could turn up to Sth Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and if you don't want to tell anyone you only want to stay for a few months then just leave when you were wanting to. I must stress however that this last option is UNETHICAL.

I don't know personally but I think you could find many opportunities in Sth and Central America to volunteer teach. Just turn up to a country that sparks your interest and ask around. It really depends if you wanted to go for the experience or to at least recoup your costs. If the latter then I would recommend Taiwan or Korea. Japan might be a bit more difficult. But be careful.

You ask for a recommendation for a recruiter. I would recommend against one. Usually. In your situation (only 4 months) it might be worthwhile. You will probably have to accept a smaller pay packet due to such a short term but it is by no means impossible.

Good luck. It can be done.
Ki.
