I wanted to ask anyone who works for AEON what did you wear on the plane? They told me that I had to look nice so no flip flops etc or warm up suits I am just trying to think comfortable for a 14 hour plane ride! Any suggestions other than change on the plane before we land? And even if i changed what is considered nice? They said it didnt' have to be dresy. Please someone give me examples. This is very frustrationg and annoying.

It will be hot when you arrive, but you may feel chilled on the plane. I usually go with a wrinkleproof (Synthetic fabric) dress that is tailored, but not uncomfortable. Top with a sweater or blazer for the plane, and then you are set to go when you get off and meet the new bosses. As for shoes, some nice sandals (NOT SHOWER SHOES!!!) usually do the trick. I would not go so far as to change on the plane before landing. No one expects you to look perfect when you land, but as you have already guessed, they don't want you to look like you are wearing pajamas either. (Also, people who dress like backpackers have a harder time getting through customs and immigration. People who are dressed better usually just cruise through with a cursory passport check)

katk: Sounds like you're really starting to get nervous..... Relax!!! No, seriously. What you decide to wear on the plane is your own business -- not that of your employer or anyone else. No one's gonna look down on you for not wearing a dress if that's not your thing. Everyone realizes that you won't look like you stepped out of a salon after a 14hr flight... If you're nervous about meeting your employer, just stay away from cutoff jeans and a ratty t-shirt. Other than that, no one's gonna look twice. Believe me.

Personally, I travel wearing a full suit & tie. As strange as it may sound, I find that I get better treatment from airport people and miscellaneous staff than if I dress down. Even security seems to treat me nice when I look nice. But I wouldn't say that's universal. It works for me though. Also makes me feel good when I dress nice. Smile

Why not wear some loose fitting pants? I usually wear khakis and a golf shirt.

A full suit, Jim? How many times have you been bumped to 1st class?

Gordon: Haven't been on a single flight that wasn't 100% FULL right down to the last seat (since I started dressing nice)... So if I ever get bumped to 1st, I'll let ya know. Smile

I did get whisked by security pretty easily though a number of times -- without turning on/off my electronic devices, swabbing them for chemical residues, etc...

I can't say that I fly that often though.... But since I wear a shirt/tie/dress pants to work every day anyways, it's no big deal just to throw a jacket over that. My wife likes it when I dress nice. Wink

I am not nervous my recruiter was asking me what I was gonna wear on the plane and I was thinking to myself "that is teh last thing on my list of importance! what i am wearing while i travel i mean my previous job I traveled for business and i just wore jeans and a tank and flip flops, the only times I have dressed up for a flight is when I was flying stand by, but if I am paying for the ticket than I would like to dress how I like. I just feel like this is one more stupid thing to worry about and it annoyed me! I had planned on wearing a cute jogging suite (not a i am working out but a cute one that is in style... the celebs wear them etc) I mean I don't wear ratty clothes but for this i want to be comfortable. I want to have comfortable shoes... I WANTED to wear my Nikes since I will be lugging around my luggage. Bleh I don't know I was just curious if anyone else had worked with AEON and what they had worn on their flight.... NO WAY I AM WEARING A DRESS on a looong flight...

i think it easy enough hon to just wear black pants, a nice tank top, with a cardigan-and sandals... when I fly (which is often now thanks to Princess Cruise lines)I always pack a pair of sock slippers to put on while im flying, and a sweatshirt that isn't too bulky IN my carryon- its a good idea too- coz airlines doooooooooooo lose you bags sometimes- good idea to have extra clothes WITH u anyways-and why not make it comfy clothes right?

** i hear what ur saying about dressing nicer on the planes- peeps do treat u alittle nice- except if u are flying air canada- then they treat u like crap regardless**

all the best

katk: I see absolutely no problem with a sweatsuit and Nikes if both are not ratty and clean.... I say: give er'.

Just go semi-casual. Dress comfortably enough to endure the plane ride, but be aware that the people who meet you when you land will be making evaluations of you over the next 7 days. It starts when they first see you. They will be wearing suits. You're not going to get fired for looking bad when you get off the plane, but they will take a note of it and be on the look out for further examples of not meet standards of professional dress. The key to training is to not stand out.

You're absolutely right to wear comfortable clothes and no, you don't need to dress up. Your sweat suit and sneakers should be fine. Make SURE you wear sneakers because there are miles to walk carrying heavy bags through the airports and you absolutely don't want anything you can't walk in. Also remember that feet swell on long flights so don't wear anything remotely tight. My best advice is to bring a kit in your carry-on with toothpaste and toothbrush, astringent, contact lens stuff if you use it, wet towels, deoderant and an extra pair of undies because, believe me you will feel grungy in a flight that long and it will be great to freshen up on the plane. IF you decide you want to change anything, there are washrooms in the coridoor just off the gate; you can use those. I have never found any difference in treatment in dressing casually, just smile and be friendly and there will be no problem.

Aeon told me to dress relaxed for the plane. Plenty of time to get changed once you get to initial training. On my flight we were dressed in everything from loose clothes to shorts!

Wear whatever you would normally choose to wear for a 14 hr flight; Japan will be warm and muggy. If you have two or more bags it will be best to have one already packed for training with the rest ready for onward shipping straight to your school from the airport.

You will come across much better if you are feeling comfortable than as a hot, sticky, power-dressed mess.

Relax and enjoy!

Thank you for the replies they have been helpfull! I have a tery clothe jogging suit (it breaths) I am from the south so I know hot and muggy. Already dealing with 70%+ humidity and 80-90 temps here. I can deal with it but I want to be comfortable with the changing temps on the flight etc but I don't want the people who meet me to hate me bc I am not all dolled up. I will be using a carry on peice along with two big peices of luggage that will be checked. I have to have clothes to last me for the week of training in Osaka. I will pick up some moist towlets thanks for the tip... changing clothes on an airplane.... isn't that like almost one step off from joining the mile high club Wink JK!
Oh yeah I haven't ever had an airline treat me bad for not dressing up. I have mainly flown Delta, I know stand by if i wasn't dressed to code i wouldn't be admited on the flight and my father would get in trouble with the company but oh well i am an easy going person I think everyone will be nice to me.
Thanks soooo much everyone!
