Hi everyone,
I have been offered a job in Tung Chung to teach grade 1 at an international prep school (Sunshine House INt'l to be exact) I was offered 18000HKD and was wondeirng if that was a decent wage. I have a BA in English, a B.ED and have 1 year overseas teaching experience.
I'm also thinking, if i take this job, to move into central...will I be able to save any money at all and have fun???? I would potentially like to save 5000HKD/month.
Any infor would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Yup, seems to be about the market rate if you're not on the EMB NET scheme. After you get a year's experience in this job, you can try applying for the NET program for next year.

I'd live in Tung Chung if I were you, (particularly if you want to save money) it's OK, quite a few westerners out there if that's your concern (teachers, people working on the airport or Disneyland) and it's still pretty easy to get to Central (about 20 mins by MTR). Also only half an hour to the beaches on Lantau at the weekend.

Alternatively, if you really want the full-on expat ghetto experience you could look at Discovery Bay, 10 min shuttle bus to Tung Chung, fast ferry to Central, wall-to-wall gweilos, plastic shrubbery, the lot. You'll either love it or hate it.

Sounds like hell on Earth!

I have been there actually, and it made me laugh. Here in the UK everyone complains about 'foreigners' not assimilating into the local society/culture - Discovery Bay is exemplary of the expat community doing the very same thing! Good old British double standards ... Rolling Eyes

Each to their own, Mark-O. Some people like it and best of luck to 'em, just not my cup of tea.
