I know this has been thrown out in many threads before. But my question is how hard is it going to be for me to get a legal teaching job, visa, arc with a two year college dipolma plus the advanced TESOL course specializing in children. I am a bit confused as I have read past threads saying you absolutely need a BA and others are saying yes you need a BA or 2 yr college dipolma and TESOL. A second part to this question is if all I could secure is "an illegal" teaching position, how does this work in reguards to getting a visa and arc?
Thanks for your help!

sorry, you did say Taiwan, didn't you.
I apologise - didn't read carefully before.

Will you have that TESOL cert without any actual teaching practice?

Hey CanadianGirl,

I'm in the same boat as you. I only have my 2 year college diploma and a TESL certification.

Let me know if you get any answers.

Where abouts in Canada are you from?

Dan

With an illegal position, you won't get a visa or ARC, I think.. Check out the Taiwan forums here and also tealit.com

If you want to work illegally in Taiwan. Try to get a 60 day visa before you go. A 30 day visa is still useful but doesn't give you as much time. Enrole in a language course when you get to Taiwan. There are places to do this without actually attending any classes but for just a little extra you may as well learn Chinese. You will need to do a visa run, say to Hong Kong. Make sure you have everything you need like proof of funds, proof of enrolling in a language course, proof of return ticket, and try to have a friend in Taiwan who can vouch for you and his contact details and ID number. You will (hopefully) be given a two month extendable visa. This will last for 6 months. Then you will need to do another visa run.

Try to avoid using a recruiter. They aren't really necessary but they can be good if you are lacking a degree/experience/etc. If you must use one then PM me and I'll give you the details of one that WON'T rip you off.
Ki.
