Should I get the TESOL Certificate from TEFL International; or get the CELTA from ECC in Thailand before I come to China? I am concerned with teaching in countries other than China.
Again, I would like to thank everyone for all the help I have received on this board. |

Yes, you are right, I goofed. I am new to EFL and this board. I have never had to make a poll. However, your condescending remark is not appreciated. With the effort it took you to poke fun at me you could have give your opinion. Does anyone know show to expand the poll, if so, could you politely tell me how? |

One absolutely confusion-free vote cast.
If you have the choice (i.e. the money) ALWAYS go for the CELTA. Better-regarded and will open more doors.
If you do revise your poll add option C): None Of The Above. CELTAs cost a small fortune considering the salary you can draw. Many TESLs are not worth the paper they are printed on.
These certs do open more doors- some jobs insist on them, and some countries won't even let you teach there at all without one of them (these usually specify the CELTA). It's a must if you want a Z visa in Beijing. But I've never noticed a strong link between salary and certification. In general, the jobs that demand a cert dont seem to pay any better than the ones that don't require them.
Only benefit I can see...if you want to do ESL work in USA/UK etc. you will have to have certification.
