Dang it, but I'll have to ask for a raincheck. I'll be in a few weeks for round two, if applicable.
BTW has anyone had any recent experience with the Ministry of Ed. and ikamet renewals? I'm getting a bit, well, edgy because I leave in just over two weeks and they still have my passport. I kinda need my passport and ikamet to get back. I know they tend to work in brinkmanship fashion but gosh golly, this is bad on my nerves. |

Evidently it's the Calisma Bakanligi who has control over those things now. Did you have to fill out the new EU-approved resume-looking form? |

It's looking more complex than I originally expected. My ikamet expired a few days ago and so back in june when I signed my EF contract they suggested that I post it to them with my passport as soon as I got back to Canada. Thy already had all my other forms. Well, I posted them, they received them and forwarded them to the appropriate places and it seemed fine till today when I learned that I will be coming in on a tourist visa. Nasty. Not what I wanted. Is it posible to enter on a tourist visa with expiredikamet in hand and then change over on to a working visa if the paperwork has already started and just needs to be finalised????? They said the main problem was that my ikamet was from the kayseri security dept and so it couldnt be done in Istanbul. (The quote was: 'we can
not extend it here without finalising the transfer procedures legally.')
Very confusing. Back in July it sounded pretty straightforward. Have things changed? |

Things are changing with those things, but I'm not sure how. I once came in on my expired ikamet because I was in the two-week window. If you are, too, ask if you can't get in without the tourist visa. It will probably work. Changing the ikamet is no big deal. |
