I have the latest and not-so-greatest Taiwan Lonely Planet guide... does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay when first landing in Taiwan???

What's the easiest place to get to, most likely to have space, safest, etc?

It's going to be a 23 hour trip for me to get over there and a 12 hour time difference so finding a safe place to sleep is going to be priority number one.

Also, what time of year do places tend to be packed??? Is there a "rush hour" for wannabe teachers in Taiwan?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
