Hi there! Does anyone know where I can apply for the TEFL course in HK? I missed the application deadline for the TEFL offered by the British council, but I can't wait until next Feb because I need that teaching certificate to get a teaching job in Hong Kong. Also, is there any difference between the online TEFL course and the one offered by the British council? |

Yes, the online "one" is, well, online, and the British Council CELTA is most certainly not online. In addition, whereas the latter is pretty much the best of the best of the bunch (in terms of both certification and location), the former is not recognised or accepted anywhere where a TEFL certificate is actually required!

Ludwig, thank you very much for your reply. I don't want to take the online TEFL course because I was worrying about its certification as well. So.... is there any other institute offering TEFL course in Hong Kong? |

As I understand it, it is only the British Council CELTA and the English for Asia Trinity Certificate that are offered in HK (and, as I understand it from the British Council, they may well cease to offer this particular course, focusing instead on 'in service' training for local teachers). It is not a big thing here as English is one of the two languages employed here in daily life as an official language. In addition, it is not the cheapest place to live whilst completing the course (and I would not think it would be that simple a task to 'come here' to do the course as immigration may not issue a study visa for such a short time). |
