Hello, I have been reading this forum for about a month now and I just signed up. I am wanting to teach english overseas somewhere and I have a bunch of questions. I am a 20 year old male from Canada with no degree, I am planning on taking a 120 hour tefl course in september when I find a school to take it from. So if I take it in september what are my chances of landing a job for october? I am not sure if I want to be stuck in a country for 1 year so where are good places to go for short contracts? Out of all the countries it seems that thailand, china, and indonesia would be the best for having no degree. Can you get shorter contracts? Also I have a car payment of $150 canadian, would I make enough to pay this and live on a teachers salary? My girlfriend is comming with me, she will have about $3000 can and she does not want to teach, would she be able to find any kind of work? also if she can't get work would I be able to support her? Sorry for the long post, I just have a lot of questions. I have more but I will save them for later.
Thank you for taking the time to answer if you do .

Yes.

Live, yes. Live up to your usual standards, probably not.

Does she speak Chinese? Does she have a marketable skill? If not, I really can't think of anything she could do.
also if she can't get work would I be able to support her?
Probably not.

Answers for Indonesia only:

Excellent: Indonesian language schools (such as EF) are desperate for teachers.

No. Indonesian schools must pay for a one-year visa in full, and generally do not offer shorter contracts to new teachers.

Your "take home" pay will be close to $1000 CND a month. If you budget your money you should be able to pay the car loan.

Indonesia will not give her a visa for longer than 30 days unless she is working in the country also. |

is650----Really that much work there? I never thought about it I guess. Is it a good place for a holiday? I will need to do some border runs in the next year.
To the OP if you want to work illegally somewhere it would mean regular visa runs. In China you could be legal,.,Car payment would be about 1000RMB plus the issue of how to send it. Sometimes you see a person working in an expat bar but it's usually a friend of the owner. |
