The bottom line:

Some western men like western women.
Some western men like Asian women.
Some western men like all women.
Some western men don't like any women.

Some western women like western men.
Some western women like Asian men.
Some western women like all men.
Some western women don't like any men.

There. That about sums it up, doesn't it? Now can we please just move on?

Oooops--an unintentional oversight! They could be included in the "don't like women/men" lines, though, couldn't they?

Sigh. I really hoped more people would be ready to drop the male-vs-female crap, but after reading the most recent threads, it looks like we still haven't gotten it all out of our systems yet.

Honestly, this is worse than junior high-type back-stabbing now. I hope we all conduct ourselves much more professionally in our classrooms than we do in the company of our fellow anonymous on-line colleagues--especially since most of us probably work with members of... GASP!!!... the opposite sex!!! (And since we're anonymous on this forum, how do we know we're not zapping insults back and forth at our own coworkers???)

Sad

I have no problem being professional in class; females in my classroom are a different entity to females with whom I would consider a relationship.

The threads regarding Western men & Asian women have nothing to do with the classroom, education or professionalism; they are to do with one's life OUTSIDE the classroom but whilst still in Japan.

The two (threads) can co-exist without conflict; no...........? Rolling Eyes

No, they cannot. You have posted what you (and the other gentlemen, as you say) consider to be informative information in the other thread. What you consider informative, however, other people might consider insulting. The women in That Other Thread are willing to grant you your opinions, yet the men seem unwilling to relent with their assertions that we are lesser beings. Of course you will never listen to me because I am a woman, but I think the men are the ones that have gone too far and made my hope of a truce nothing more than a pie-in-the-sky dream. I give up.

By the way--I am a perfectly rational, down-to-earth woman, perfectly willing to admit if I am wrong in an argument, and I still find that Other Thread highly offensive (with the exception of AgentMulder's joke on page 14 or so--that was cute).

And I think you completly missed the point of my last post. I was suggesting that insulting women on this forum was equivalent to insulting the women that you work with--if it's not OK to do it in the office, why is it OK here?

We could all be coming to this forum to discuss what we have in common (teaching, living in Japan and trying to fit in, etc., etc.), yet here we are dividing ourselves into little camps. All the men on that other thread had to do to avoid all this current nastiness was say, "I prefer women who are feminine," rather that "I prefer Asian women, because they are MORE feminine than Western women, who are..." You can have your opinions, but why must you put other people down in the process?

What constitutes 'putting other people down in the process'? Where did I do that?

Further, no female co-worker has broached the subject in my workplaces; if they did I would calmly debate it if the time, and place, were appropriate.

As I have mentioned before, the majority of my friends OUTSIDE Japan are Western females; I seem to interact well enough with them. I wouldn't consider them 'partner' material-and the feeling is probably mutual(!)-but I certainly don't hate women of any background. Sorry, can't help finding Asian women, IN THE MAIN, more attractive. That's me.

I don't think there has been anything too personal or vindictive said by anyone in the other thread; maybe 15 years' teaching in the classroom (and some very rough, non EFL, ones in most cases) has toughened me up somewhat.................

Anyway, the whole thing has become rather tiresome hasn't it; I believe I have made some valid points appreciated by some, and I have certainly read with interest other men's (similar) views. I just find less substance in the posts countering these views which is slightly disappointing.

Will dedicate more time to my Japanese studies and less to these threads as I have said all I can say and there are too many 'deaf ears' out there.

Love

Je ne comprens pas!

I'm cool with everyone, man or woman. But diss me for no reason and I'll diss you back. But since you all seem like totally cool people, I have no problem with any of you. Let's live and let lie. Have fun!
