How long does it generally take from the time you send in an application via E-Mail to hear back from one of the schools with a yes/no for an inverview?

I sent out applications to: GEOS /AEON / ACC / ECC / JTE

Thanks!

Sage,

were you referring to the JET program as well?

JET is not a company but a government exchange program run through an organisation called CLAIR, and applications to go on the program are normally made through overseas Japanese embassies and consulates. If you are applying by email I wouldnt hold your breath waiting for a response, if it were me.

Just exactly when did you send these applications out? Your post sounds a bit over-anxious, but it's hard to say because of the missing info.

I'd say that you should treat them like any other job. If you don't get a reply in 2 weeks, figure you didn't make it past stage one.

As for JET, you must realize that they have applications only once a year, with deadlines in December, interviews in Feb/March, and decisions made in April/May. People selected go in July/August. So, if you just sent them an application, you have a long wait ahead of you.

Moreover, a lot depends on whether or not an employer is even hiring at the time you send you application.

Sorry, I can only answer two of your queries:

I found that ECC took about a week to reply, and JTE took about 24 hours.

As a note, though: JTE looks like a recruitment agency, not an actual school (as their advertising seems to suggest). The reply I got from them was simply a form letter that asked me to apply again to American Language Schools. I found this slightly annoying because ALS advertises on its own anyway, and I don't think going to JTE first did anything to help my application. (Well, that's not true-- I'm sure they get a kickback if I get a position.)

Glenski's advice in terms of two weeks = didn't get the job is pretty solid for the big four, but if you end up applying to companies who don't have offices overseas (North America, Europe, etc.) I've noticed that it can take a little bit longer. I think in some cases they might actually go to the trouble of translating your resume and cover letter for their higher ups.

Good luck!
