Hello,

I'm planning to go to Ecuador in February 2011 and was wondering if anyone knows if this is a good time to find a teaching job or is it going to be very difficult? If not then, when are the best times to find a job in Ecuador?

Thanks,

Magda

Institutes generally hire year round, so you should be good to go, or are you looking for school-school jobs?

Thanks for this. That's good to know. When do the school terms start, out of interest?

It depends on where you will be. In Quito and other more northern parts of the country, the school year is on par with the U.S., but in southern areas like Guayaquil, the school year starts in March or April, so February is a good time to look. The important thing is to have a visa that will allow you to work, as you cannot work on a tourist visa and you arent allowed to do border runs to renew a visa. PM me is you want some names of places to apply in the south. Ive been working in Guayaquil for several years.

This doesn't apply to you, but for everyone else, December seems to be a slow month for language institutes because students take vacations. I am currently looking in Quito and it seems as though most institutes won't be able to provide many hours until January or later. Still, even now there are institutes that are hiring.

Good luck!

I know its a tough idea to accept, but if you got on a plane today, went to Quito, and asked around, youd find work within a week.

I currently work with Canadian House Center and I know that if you have a TEFL certificate and teaching experience, theres a job for you. They have 3 locations, Cuenca the big city, Machala the beach city, and Loja, the quiet but vibrant cultural capital of Ecuador.

Good luck
