hi all!

I was thinking of getting my Tesol certification since I haven't completed my bachelor's degree just yet. Does it matter what school i get it from? Because i'm finding that different places offer it at different rates. Global Tesol charges $1000 (which includes the Tesol certificate + 2 specialization courses) and The Canadian College of Teachers offers the Tesol certificate for $450 (specialization courses are optional at $100 each)

Does anyone know if there is a difference? Or even better, has anyone heard of either schools, and if so, how reputable are they?

Thanks for any info! Smile

There are vast, vast differences between various TESOL certificates. You can get an MA in TESOL in the US. But in Canada, we usually use TESL (Teaching Englisha s a Second Language) not TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). In Ontario, you can spend a year at a college (Humber and Algonquin) for less than double what Global would charge you and then you'd be able to teach in Ontario.

It may be different elsewhere, but in Canada you should think very, vry carefully before buying into a private certificate course. At the very least take a look at what the universities and colleges offer and read what people have said about short courses in the teacher training section.

Look up TESL Canada and TESL Ontario and look at their requirements.

If your plan is only to go overseas to work at a conversation school, then you really don't need a certificate at all.
