This is the worst school I have ever worked for. In the 6 months I was there they went through 12 teachers, 8 Chinese staff and 4 managers. The cook that worked there told me in the 2 years he had been employed there that there has been over 50 different teachers. They just can't keep them. They cheat you every way possible.
AVOID HENG FENG.

I read this with interest as I was supposed to go there for 1st job here. Turned out I had trouble getting a flight and they got impatient and told me forget it. It sounded like a stressful place to be. Thank my lucky stars I guess.
I do notice they are always running ads which of course is a bad sign. |

So, the chef stays for 2 years, and still counting...
...but those who are supposed to "teach" last no longer than a few weeks?
Maybe they ere no teachers... and the students found out!
Or did the chef rat on you? |

My first job, too was suppose to be in Harbin with Heng Feng. This was back in 2000, before I went to Korea so I was a little lucky in that regard.
We did our homework and quickly found Heng Feng to have a terrible reputation. In fact, they were blackballed my many people.
This was regarding pay, contract, etc.
And yes, it seems that they advertise frequently.
One only needs to advertise if they are desperate... |

Dear Elliot,
You probably just cost the cook his job! That school is no longer reputable since they let their foreign manager go. Roman was a good check and balance on the values(or lack there of)of the lady who runs that school. In fact he had to fight tooth and nail in order for her to pay me my year end bonus which I had earned!(I sat in the office for 3 hours while she tried to weasel out of it). I now work at a university for less pay but at least I know it is a legal job and that my pay will be on time. Working at Language schools is a real risk. I have enjoyed my 2 years in China but the salaries of state run schools are not reasonable for qualified teachers. Unless you want to work illegally you will not bank enough of your salary. I'd suggest a move to an International school in China or perhaps relocating to a country where a qualified teacher will be reimbursed properly. |
