Hey All. I had my session with ECC in Melbourne on Friday and I got the job. They rang me 3 hours after my interview! I'm stoked.
It was quite an interesting day. I was very impressed with the honesty of ECC's head recruiter. They actually had a section in their information which stated the negative aspects of working for ECC.
Then about 5 out of 25 failed the grammar test, and they left immediately which I'm sure was a bit embarrassing.
The teaching demonstration was nerve-racking (but fun).
Can't wait! Will probably be coming before the start of the academic year.
Look forward to talking teaching and life in Japan with you all. Catchya |

Did they tell you when you were leaving?
They told me between Feb-April. I asked to be placed in Osaka. I hope it works out! |

Congrats to both of you! If you're in Osaka, perhaps we'll meet when you start teaching! I'll be happy to help out with any questions you may have, feel free to pm me. Now that you know you're comming, the time at home will pass quickly.
Enjoy! |

Man.. the time at home seems to be taking forever
Then again, I need to save money like crazy for the first three months. I heard the pay is hard to save in that time.
How much do you recommend bringing over working with ECC in Osaka? |

You will have a lot of set-up expenses, depending in whether you rent an ECC apartment or find one yourself live in a gaijin hostel. You have to clothe and feed yourself, pay transport to get to work, maybe buy a mobile phone and furnish an apartment.
I have read of people coming with $US 1000 and then borrowing 100,000 yen from NOVA when they arrive. You can live on this but they will take a large chunk (1/3) out of your first pay check (about 4-6 weeks after you arrive) and you will likely be broke the first 2 months after taking out rent, utilities etc. Everybody's needs are different but a ballpark figure is about $US 2000-3000 (about $AUS 2800) for the first six weeks. The more you bring the better. |
